A closer look at the update

Exploring the Ice Caves

Inside, the terrain is mostly Packed Ice and Calcite, and without Glow Lichen, Ice Crystals give the only natural light. Think twice before lighting the cave up: bright light can send Icicles falling, and landing on one deals extra damage.

The Frostbite and Freezing

This zombie throws Ice Balls from range but prefers close combat, where its hits apply Freezing: you shake, jump lower and eventually take damage. Leather Armor blocks the freezing itself but not the effect.

Its dropped Ice Balls let you brew Potions of Freezing, and dipping Arrows into a Cauldron with that potion gives Arrows of Freezing. Zombies and Husks that stay in Powder Snow turn into Frostbites.

Fixes for everyday play

Tamed baby mobs can now be healed with food, and Drowned finally show the helmets they wear. If a world lost its achievements by mistake because of add-ons, they return the first time you play it.

Smaller repairs make blocks, mobs and sound behave properly:

Trapdoors stay in one fixed direction while you hold the place button
Pistons and the blocks they move now push Shulkers, as in Java Edition
Red and Brown Mushrooms need central block support but can be placed in any light
Lush Caves replace Dripstone and Sulfur Caves in very humid regions
Cushions stop vanishing when their chunk reloads
Split Slimes stop inheriting their parent’s properties
Sounds stay in sync after you pause and resume

Android fixes and graphics

Touch controls no longer stutter, the first characters typed into chat are no longer lost, and the Android back button works again in Ore UI screens. Android devices also get more stable Volumetric Lights.

Vibrant Visuals now warns you when the render distance goes above the visual preset level. Colored block lighting no longer leaves aliasing artifacts on Beds and Signs.

Loading, crashes and Realms

Hit pause during a dimension change and loading now finishes instead of sticking on the Generating World screen. A crash tied to holding an invalid photo is also gone.

Moving a world onto a Realm or downloading it back takes less time and breaks less often. You can also invite players to your Realm without adding them as Xbox friends first.
